I've had good luck bonding with interviewers over this approach. Questions like "So what brought you to company X?" and "What do you do in a typical day, what do you like most about that?" create a personal connection to the interviewer, and offer a chance for them to share something more personal than empty generalities about the company.

As a bonus, if they can't tell you anything they enjoy about their job you get an early heads up that you might want to run screaming from the place.
